As a former school teacher, speaking in front of a group has always come naturally to Joel. Where many fear public speaking, it is where he has always felt completely at home.
“I don’t know why it comes so easily to me,” he says. “It’s a gift I have always had. Words are to me what paint is to an artist. They just come together in a way that seems to have an impact on people,” Levy says. “When we are given a gift, it is our responsibility to develop it, and use it to improve our own lives while helping others to improve theirs. Speaking happens to be one of those unique gifts, in that it naturally lends itself towards the benefit of others.”
Joel’s favorite subjects to speak on are those things for which he is completely enthusiastic in his own life. “Everything that has to do with personal empowerment gives me a charge,” he says. “Especially if it has to do with keeping people safe, or turning adversity into opportunity,” Levy adds.
It is no wonder he is often hired to speak on personal safety, bully prevention, and overcoming the challenges associated with his lifelong battle with Type 1 diabetes.
With a style of speaking that is described as passionate, engaging, genuine, and packed with real information, Joel’s audiences are not only inspired for the moment, but moved to action going forward.
“The biggest charge I get is when I have finished speaking, and someone in the audience comes up to me and tells me they felt as if I was speaking directly to them,” he says warmly. “When that happens, I smile, because I know that another person’s life has been affected, and they will very likely pass that on.”
